SNEAKER SPOT WORDS. Aron Phillips PHOTO. Troy Paraiso Sneaker Bistro Boutique Sneaker stores can either become a flash in the pan or a vital part of a community. After almost six years in the game, you can guess what Sneaker Bistro Boutique means to Long Island. Located in Patchogue, N.Y. – approximately 60 miles east of Manhattan – Sneaker Bistro is not your typical New York sneaker store. When you serve a local population of about 12,000 people, only the strong survive; but when you become a retail destination, the possibilities are endless. "What makes us different is our customer service, and we sincerely mean that," says owner Joe Trinca. "We go above and beyond for our clientele because they are family. Don't get me wrong, we have one of the dopest stores, coolest blogs and get the hottest kicks, but it all means nothing without them." With decor inspired by some of the world's finest Italian bistros, you realize exactly what Trinca is talking about as soon as you walk in. In addition to brick walls, granite and brass plate shelving and porcelain tiles, they even have a faux brick oven and a table for two – no reservations required. "I wouldn't say it was a lifelong dream, but rather a destiny that stemmed from a hobby turned passion turned business," says Trinca. "Before opening Sneaker Bis- tro, I was a boom crane operator. (laughs) I know, two different worlds. I loved buy- ing, wearing and collecting sneakers, but after many years I got tired of going to the city for kicks." Serving up sneakers from Nike, Reebok and DC Life, as well as gear from Stussy, 10.Deep and The Hundreds, Sneaker Bistro has made sure Strong Island keeps fresh. So much so that everyone from Wale to Erick Sermon have made a point to stop through. And as the movement continues to grow, be on the lookout for another location to pop up in the near future.
