TANGLED WEB Tese websites will help pass the time until the NBA returns... NBA Analytics courtvisionanalytics.com/ Do you consider yourself a basketball nerd? Think you know all about random stats and like to brag to your friends about PER? Well, get ready to vastly improve your basketball nerd debating skills with Kirk Goldsberry's site CourtVision. Court- Vision uses visual and spatial analytics to evaluate basketball performance, which in English means that Goldsberry uses interactive graphics to show an intricate breakdown of a player or team's perfor- mance. That's a simplified summary, but the site has fascinating and detailed posts with supporting graphics on things like where rebounds go, where Ray Allen helps the Heat, and a breakdown of the worst shooters of the 2011-2012 NBA season. The site is a must-visit for serious hoop nerds. Art society6.com/MaddisonBond Like most Portlanders, Maddison Bond is a hardcore, "artsy" Blazers fan. He is defi- nitely part of the "Keep Portland Weird" movement. Thankfully for us NBA fans, Bond has channeled his artistic talents into creating affordable, NBA-themed art that would not only beautify your home, but serve as a humble brag to your guests that yes, you are an art collector as well as a NBA fan. Since he is a Blazers fan, there are some Brandon Roy, Luke Babbitt and Craig Smith illustrations. But Bond's work also includes LeBron James, Charles Barkley and Shaq. All of the artwork in his shop is only $15 so you don't have any excuse to support the arts. Humor www.nerdist.com/podcast/you-made- it-weird/ Pete Holmes may not be that well known out- side of comedy circles, but if you have ever seen any of the talking E-Trade baby commer- cials, you have heard his voice. As delightful as those commercials are, get to know the real Pete by listening to his hilarious podcast, You Made it Weird, where he interviews come- dians and finds out what makes them weird while exploring his own life. Adam Carolla, Hannibal Buress, Chelsea Peretti, Jim Gaffi- gan, and the Sklar Brothers are just a short sample of the type of comedians that make it weird with Pete. Holmes often says he doesn't know anything about sports (or as he calls it "the sports"), but don't hold that against him because each episode will make you laugh out loud and learn things about comedy you never would've considered before. Culture digitalrefrain.com/ There are a number of pop culture sites out on the 'net but Digital Refrain's small and hard working crew goes places where no other site may dare. Sure, there are the usual reviews for movies, TV shows, video games, food and sneakers, but Digital Re- frain puts their own unique spin on the subject matter. From standing in line for a Yeezy 2 raffle in Portland, Oregon to a heart- felt review of Magic Mike, Digitial Refrain refreshingly lacks any agenda and is creat- ing its own slice of pop culture with amaz- ing art paired with each post. When you need to read about something other than basketball, Digital Refrain has you covered. Movies www.whmpodcast.com/ There are some pretty terrible movies out there always bringing up the question: why was this movie even made? Well the comedy arts collective, Private Cabin, has decided to painstakingly address this question in its weekly podcast, We Hate Movies. On each episode, the WHM team hilariously rips on a movie scene by scene, reveling in the awkward moments, horrible acting and poor directorial decisions. Some of the movies covered so far include "Inspector Gadget", "The Next Karate Kid", "Judge Dredd" and "Babycakes". The guys are open to suggestions so if there is a terrible movie you want to hear get ripped to shreds, sug- gest it and it could be in the next episode. 15 Basketball www.HouseofHighlights.com Dime's sister site, House of Highlights, has only been around for a couple of months, but in that short time it has become the best place to check out highlights from any- where basketball is being played. We don't just stick with the standard NBA highlights, either. Everything from the high school scene to summer streetball is covered. From mouth-opening dunks to ankle-breaking crossovers to high-quality fan-made bas- ketball mixtapes, House of Highlights is a necessary part of every basketball fan's daily web surfing.
