GEAR WORDS. Arie Stark PHOTOS. POINT 3 POINT 3 It's early Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn and I'm getting ready for my weekly pickup run at the playground behind my Midwood apartment. Instead of the baggy shorts and cotton tee I usually pull out of my drawers, I opt to test out some authentic ball gear produced by the fi ne folks at POINT 3. Already late for the set start time, I quickly throw on my duds and make my way to the rusted rims and warped asphalt of the neighborhood court. It's a brisk 46 degrees outside, but anyone who knows me knows that weather will never get between me and the game I love. It also helps that I come from the Great White North and had to endure years of hoopin' in the bitter Canadian climate. The six guys on the court pair up by height and skill level; we separate into evenly matched teams and get started in our fi rst game up to 11. About nine points in, I can feel the perspiration getting ready to make its widely anticipated debut in the crevices of my forehead and the groove at the small of my back. Typically 10-20 minutes at this level of sweating would leave the shirt I was wearing – previously a Hits 103.5 hand-me-down cotton tee – looking like a treasure map of bodily fl uids. Not the case this time; POINT 3 to the rescue. POINT 3's DRYV technology incorporates a hydrophilic (moisture absorbing) material coupled with a hydrophobic (moisture wicking) material, allowing ballplayers – like myself – to keep their extremities dry without any moisture reaching the body. The sleeveless top I wore allowed for freer movement to drain those fadeaway jumpers and their DRYV Moisture Control technology (also found on the sides and back of the shorts) allows you to wipe your brow and face without worrying about moisture buildup; keeping the shirt from weighing you down from extreme dampness. Did I mention the anti-bacterial fabric prevents the emission of bad odor? Trust me, this comes in handy plenty. With a curved inseam slightly across the knee, the POINT 3 performance game shorts allow you to get low and play D without having the shorts catch on your kneecaps. This came up huge when we were tied at 10 and my team needed to play tight D to keep from losing the best-of-three series. We won that game 15-13. Many ball -oriented athletic brands focus on basketball footwear. POINT 3 is the only com- pany exclusively focused on performance and in- novation of basketball apparel, footwear ex- cluded. Every garment has been designed with the on-court needs of the basketball player in mind, eliminating the ex- ternal variables that may hamper your game, let- ting you focus on the art of draining buckets. No more excuses. SNEAKER SPOT For more information on POINT 3, visit www.point3basketball.com. 21
