Steven Counts for Red Bull Red Bull Midnight Run Red Bull's mission this year is to settle the ultimate basketball debate: Which city produces the best ballers? Tey invited 400 players from Washington, D.C., Boston, New York and Chicago to compete for a chance to crown themselves and put on for their city. Te Red Bull Midnight Run is for ultimate bragging rights, so it wasn't any surprise when the best talent came out ready to give it everything they had. "Are we gonna be able to get in?" Upon arriving at a secret location in down- town Washington, D.C. for the launch of the opening city of Red Bull Midnight Run this May, I ran into a few female fans wait- ing in the parking lot. They wanted in. They saw me with my white Red Bull t-shirt, my audio equipment and figured, hey, maybe he can get us in? Unfortunately for those ladies, this was invite-only. Exclusive. If you weren't one of the most talented basketball players in the region – and these girls in their curvy jeans and makeup didn't strike me as the next Cappie Pondexters – you weren't get- ting through the doors. Need talent? Excitement? Intensity? High- scoring games with the best talent anyone can find outside of paying big money to go to an NBA or major D-I college game? This summer's Red Bull Midnight Run had it all, and nowhere was it more apparent than in the program's opening event in Washington, D.C. Whether you were Corey Allmond – a for- mer NCAA record breaker at Sam Houston St. – or Mike Anderson – an athletic, 6-8 forward from the NBA D-League's Dakota Wizards – or even Baby Shaq – the famed streetball player - didn't matter.
